Population aging is serious in our country, with the sharply increasing of the elderly people, the proportion of disabled people increases greatly at the same time. Patients with physical disabilities take the largest proportion in the population of the disabled person. Wheelchair plays an important role among this kind of person, although barrier-free facilities have established massively in today’s society, the ordinary wheelchair can work good in most of the situations, but it can only step back when face the stairs, overpasses and so on which can see very easily on the road in daily life. So people have paid more attention to design a new type of stair climbing wheelchair which is safe and reliable, convenient and comfortable and can suitable for the elderly and disabled patients.TRIZ theory is used for optimization analysis, modeling and conflicts solving for the key institutions of the wheelchair, the principles of invention were gotten. The specific solutions and optimization points were obtained based on the reminder from the invention principles and combine the existing related knowledge; then the theoretical calculation and design was carried out for the new type stair-climbing wheelchair, so the structural dimensions of the wheelchair is got; in the end Autodesk Inventor is applied for three-dimensional modeling different parts of the wheelchair and assembling all parts together, and strength analysis was applied for the key parts of the wheelchair, dynamic simulation was carried out also, which make sure that the mechanical properties of the individual components of the stair-climbing wheelchair to meet the strength requirements, and the feasibility of the design is confirmed.The main optimization points of the new stair-climbing wheelchair include:1, three-wheeled walking climbing stairs planetary gear mechanism was used, gear clutch mechanism was installed which improve fluctuation of the center of gravity and make the movement is more smoothly, realized using the same drive system to complete double functions:walking on the ground and climbing stairs, increasing the safety factor of the wheelchair, and the life of the drive gear;2, user can adjust the seat and back system to any angle which make the wheelchair more comfortable.3, install ratchet locking mechanism to ensure that the wheelchair can only go in one direction in the process of climbing stairs, preventing skidding generation;4, the power system was installed to realize semi-automatic control, and make the process of climbing stair saved more effort;5, folding table and shopping basket were installed which make the wheelchair more hommization. This paper is overall design the whole stair-climbing wheelchair comprehensively and systematically, the innovation points is novelty, which has a certain reference value for the future research.
