Because of longevity, low maintenance costs, low energy consumption and otheradvantages, asphalt pavement has achieved rapid development. Mineral mixture is animportant material for the construction of asphalt pavement. With the development ofthree-dimensional detection technology, the detection of mineral mixture has an veryimportant significance to modern asphalt pavement. The morphological characteristics, distributions, and grades of aggregates have a key effect to the durability, resistance, stability, and anti-rutting of asphalt pavement. In this paper, a deep research about three-dimensionaldetection method of aggregate size has been done. This paper, analyzes the morphological characteristics and evaluation theory ofaggregate particles, builds a three-dimensional data acquisition platform of aggregateparticles, achieves a rapid particles three-dimensional data acquisition,by using of infraredlaser plane array camera. For the reason of noises exist in original three-dimensional data, thepaper proposes a new denoising algorithm and compares the denoising effects between thenew algorithm and the traditional method. Using mathematical morphology method obtains abinary image and design algorithm to repair the missing or empty for the binary imageinformation. The paper gives the segmentation methods based on the region segmentation, based on the boundary segmentation, based on a specific theory, and proposes thesegmentation algorithm based on particle binary image area growth to achieve a separation ofparticles. The paper, innovatively puts forward three views of aggregate particles andanalyzes particle size of the three views using digital image processing technology, through amathematical model, derives the synthetic particle with weighted coefficients, analyzes andcomputes the particle size of the aggregates. In order to verify the reasonableness and accuracy of the proposed synthetic particle size, three group samples data has been used and obtained more accurate result. Using the obtainedresult, gets more characteristic parameters of aggregate particles, which lays a solidfoundation for further studying aggregate gradation.
