With the increasing number of vehicles and the axle weight, the performance of asphaltpavement has been strictly reqired. Polymer modified asphalt can be used to improve the roadperformance and SBS modified asphalt has been widely applied because of its excellent roadperformance. But in the actual project, because the molecular structure and chemicalproperties are quite different between SBS and asphalt, modified asphalt can be segregatedduring storage. So modified asphalt is hard to storage stability. Therefore, it is particularlyimportant to research the preparation method of SBS modified asphalt which has good storagestability. This paper firstly discusses the composition and properties of SBS asphalt, analyzingthe factors affecting the stability of SBS modified asphalt. Secondly, exploring additives’effect on the storage stability of SBS modified asphalt by experiment. Thirdly, discussing themeaning of stability and put forward a comprehensive evaluation method for the stability ofmodified asphalt. Finally, determining a optimum productive condition of SBS modifiedasphalt which has good storage stability. The results show that there is a compatibility between the types of asphalt and thecomponents of SBS. The use of the two additives improve the storage stability of SBSmodified asphalt significantly. The evaluation index about the storage stability of SBSmodified asphalt are as follows: softening point, ductility, viscosity after segregation and thesoftening point before and after Thermal storage. At last, this paper determines the preparationmethod and materials of modified asphalt, choosing Korean SK70#and SK90#as asphalt,SBS4303as modifier, adding additives1and2to improve the stability of SBS modifiedasphalt, defining the optimum preparation temperature, time and shear rate.
