At present, as China’s urbanization process accelerated, development of urban economyand improvement of urban people’s living standars, the people who live in cities to the publicspace needs more and more obvious, urban public space in the building also has made greatachievements, but also showed a lot of problems. Mainly embodied that design andconstruction neglect to behavioral activity, causing the lack of public life in public space. Thepublic space of city commercial street as the important component of the public space of city,which has already become the important " carriers " of public life in the modern city which isindispensable. In urban commercial street, how to construct high quality space that canundertake public activity, has become the hot spot today. Therefore, the paper is to researchthe public space of city commercial street based on people’s behavioral psychology andbehavioral activity, the purpose of which is to study how to build and meet people’sbehavioral requirement in the public space of urban commercial street.The paper is to research the public space of city commercial street based on theenvironmental behavior, which is focused on setting up blending between people and publicspace of city, and make sure behavioral activity and the public space are better interaction. Byanalyzing the successful cases at china and abroad, summarizes its experience that is worthinspiration, to provide the basis and enlightenment for public space’s design of our country’scommercial street. From the related disciplines of environmental behavior, analyzesbehavioral psychology and behavioral activity of commercial public space, and analyzes therelationship between behavior and space environment, and then provides that behavioralactivity is a measure of the commercial public space.As those to the theoretical basis for design of commercial public space, discusses how tocreate a commercial public space that meet the demand of people’s behavior psychology andbehavior: firstly, put forward key point of design on the whole; then according to thesubordinate relations factors of space, comes up with evaluation system of commercial publicspace elements; finally, from the perspective of supportive activity, discusses public spaceelements design of commercial street, and then states quantitative indicators about part of the elements. At the last, the research results applies to the practice, in the West Street of Xi’anfor example, Through the way of questionnaire survey and observation records, studies on thebehavior of the public space and satisfaction about people to space environment; and thenusing the analytic hierarchy process to evaluate public space elements of the West Street, findout the deficiency, finally put forward improving strategies and plan.
