Bus stop is important component of the Public transportation. Not only does rationalityof bus stop design have a significant effect on operational efficiency and service level ofpublic transport, but also it is essential for capacity and service level of urban road traffic. Animportant parameter of designing a bus stop is length of bus bay, design of the length will leadto a decline unreasonable stops traffic capacity, increasing delays in bus bay. This paper analyzes the calculation method of the length of the bus bay, and comparesthe difference between the scope of application and characteristics. In the single berth andmulti-berth conditions, the length of bus bay has relationships between berths and themaximum capacity. Further, average queuing buses model is established on Markov chain ingeneral case. During peak hours, the vehicle arrival process fits the Poisson-distribution, thelength of bus bay is determined by Markov chain and the Poisson distribution.By VISSIM simulation software, the paper researches on a typical bus bay simulationand certificates Markov model in order to determine the feasibility and reasonableness oflength. For the typical bus bay, paper studies rehabilitation programs on the average queuelength, maximum queue length and delays.Based statistical results, the paper determines areasonable rehabilitation programs and gives an optimization design instances.
