Swamp is one of the common problems in highway survey, design and construction.Also, it is one of the geological conditions that difficult to clear in engineering geology. Thewetland is very developed in the East African plateau because of theterrain, climate, geology and other reasons, especially the swamp. Project ofUganda Kampala-Entebbe Expressway in the East African plateau is on the northwestof Vitoria Lake and the swamp is one of the characteristics and difficulties of the project. Inthe project areaļ¼Œperennial swamps area a total of3, about3900m long, seasonal swamps, atotal of12, about4200m long. The swamp ground treatment scheme and constructioncontrol determines the success or failure of the project. Because local economic fallbehind, there is no corresponding engineering experience. The existing technical data cannotmeet the needs of engineering construction, so researching the technology of the foundationtreatment in swamp area in the East African plateau has a strong engineering backgroundand application value in engineering.In this paper, by studying the distribution characteristics of the swamp of highwayproject in Uganda Kampala-Entebbe Expressway, and analyze the causes and characteristicsof distribution, the East African plateau swamp. On this basis, and research suitable marshground treatment scheme and construction technology, and check the quantityand stability of swamp foundation, then obtain the following research results:1. According to the swamp perennial water level change and engineering geologicalconditions, and divide into the east African plateau marsh perennial seasonal swamps andmarshes the analyze the location and characteristics of plateau marsh in East Africa, EastAfrica plateau marsh is due to its unique geological physiognomy, climate, hydrologicalconditions, human factors.2. According to the present situation of natural environment swamp area in east Africanplateau, hardness of mechanical entering the site, exploration technology backward, putforward geological exploration techniques which is suitable to local conditions. Byinvestigation and experiment, get the physical and mechanical parameters of soil, reveal the engineering properties of foundation soil of the East African plateau bog.3. Put forward the foundation treatment scheme which is suitable for East Africa plateaumarsh, and put forward the method that perennial marsh soil appropriate uses riprap crowdedsilting processing. On marsh road bridge and a cofferdam construction conditions, pumpingin filling method can also be cofferdam treatment. Seasonal bog soil appropriate to use the infilling processing method. And put forward the treatment scheme of construction method,construction technology and quality control.4. Swamp area of East Africa plateau on the stability and settlement of subgrade, theresults show that the plan of riprap crowded silting, cofferdam pumping in filling schemecan meet the design requirements generally in the swamp embankment settlement, andstability of fill after solution treatment. Individual high fill embankment should be attachedimportance to the settlement and stability in the process of construction monitoring work.
