Research On The Predicament And Strategies Of Conservation And Development For Yunshuiyao Ancient Village

As the origin of China’s traditional culture, ancient villages preserve rich culturalheritage, carry and present traditional culture of China. Nowadays, the conservationand development of ancient villages has become an important part of our culturalheritage protection system, as well as an important part of the new rural development.Yunshuiyao Ancient Village locates in one of the Historical and Cultural Town ofFujian named Meilin., as well as the location of world cultural heritages(Huaiyuanand Hegui). Yunshuiyao Ancient Village is typical and representative among manyancient villages. However, in recent year, because of tourism development andurbanization, this ancient village has been emerging predicaments, such asdestruction of style and over-commercialization, which is hindering the sustainabledevelopment of Yunshuiyao Ancient Village. Therefore, analyzing the ancientvillage’s predicaments and proposing appropriate countermeasures becomeimperative.This paper mainly focuses on the overall environment of Yunshuiyao AncientVillage, researches the ancient village from macro and meso angles. The relatedmaterials of Yunshuiyao Ancient Village are analyzed, such as the previous plans, thedeclaration, the laws and regulations, the local records. These work are done, such ason-site research, questionnaires, interviews. Then Yunshuiyao Ancient Village’s mainfeatures and process and status of conservation are summarized, the ancient village’spractical predicaments of conservation and development are investigated frommulti-angle, such as material space, ecological environment, planning, culturaltourism. From the role orientation of the local government, residents and otherstakeholders in the ancient village’s conservation and development; the author learnsfrom the excellent experiences of developed countries and regions, combines withnational and the local actual condition, then put forward appropriate countermeasures.Although this paper focuses on Yunshuiyao Ancient Village specifically,predicaments of conservation and development are involved what are manytraditional villages and regions facing together currently. Therefore, ideas and methods proposed in this paper are targeted, but also have the common referentialsignificance in certain extents.
