As the development of tunnel engineering in China, reliable, effective and economicconstruction measures and technology have become the focus of engineers all over the world. It is proved by practical engineering that drill and blasting is still the most widely usedtechnology in the mining and construction especially for hard rock. However, in the processof drilling and blasting, seismic waves will begenerated. The seismic waves would have acertain impact on the surface buildings. Therefore, understanding the propagation of shockwave induced by drill and blasting and its influences on the surrounding buildings is of greatimportance. The propogation of shock wave generated by drill and blasting and the dynamic responseof the surrounding buildings were investigated in this dissertation. The basic constructionmethods and technology of tunneling were reviewed and summarized. The blast and vibrationtheory and the principles of the finite element method are also reviewed in this dissertation. The fully coupled method was adopted in this dissertation and the explosive process can beobserved. The numerical model was established based on ANSYS/LS-DYNA.The materialparameters were determinedand the boundary conditions were applied. The obtained peakpressure of the pore walls were verified by comparing to the theoretical empiricalformula.Hence the ground accelerations, velocity and displacement history of the surroundingbuildings are obtained based on the results of the numerical simulation.
