Chu-Sui UHVDC transmission project is first±800kV DC transmission project all theworld. Bi-polar of the project put into operation in June,2010. Sui-dong converter station, theplacement of Chu-Sui HVDC, is located in Guangdong. The power directly supplies the PearlRiver Delta region with dense load. As the load center of the Pearl River Delta, the secureoperation of Guangzhou power grid is closely related with multi HVDC including Chu-SuiDC.Undertaking the work of prevent power grid operation risk of China Southern PowerGrid, combining with the practice of Guangzhou power grid, the paper studies the secureoperation interaction between multi HVDC and Guangzhou power grid after Chu-Sui DC putinto operation. The main contents of the paper include the influence of DC fault onGuangzhou power grid, such as thermal stability, power angle stability, frequency, voltage andreactive power, DC bias effect level and so on. The influence of500kV,220kV and110kV ACfault on HVDC operation is also analyzed in the paper. In addition, the relay protection faultclearing time requirement is studied for the secure operation of DC system. Based on theresearch, the special report, secure operation measures, identification and maintenance ofimportant equipment, emergency plans are formed, which provides important guidance forplanning and design, dispatching operation, risk prevention and control of power grid. Sincethe implementation of the project outcome, the safe operation level of Guangzhou city powergrid is improved significantly and the effects of Guangzhou power grid fault on secureoperation of China Southern Power grid is prevented effectively. With the Xiluodu and Nuozhadu DC project put into operation, the DC scale of ChinaSouthern Power Grid increases further. The achievement of the paper can be further applied tothe analysis of AC and DC interaction, weak links of multi HVDC feed-in system and otherissues, which ensure the safe and stable operation of power grid.
