The Neighborhood Communication Space Planning Study In City Renewal

Because of the rapid urbanization in China, social economic development hasbrought a powerful motivation to the city construction. After the reform and openingup, complex urban problems of the old city renovation motivated the renovation of theold city. Experienced the unreasonable reform stage that planning damaged a lot ofhistoric buildings, small incremental updating ways gradually become the mainstream,then we start to aware that people demand not only physical environment updatealternative, but also have strong demand for the public space that can exchange spiritand promote harmonious relationships among neighbors.Neighborhoods contact is one of the basic needs of living life, especially in theurbanization process of the high speed development of contemporary society. Modernlife style influence the residential part of old city and the neighborhoods at all levels,making the traditional neighborhoods gradually fading and on the verge of decline.Good relationships among neighborhoods as one way to communicate emotionbetween each other and slow mood, can provide a sense of security and belonging,bear the city culture and sustaining the city memories. Which has important socialvalue and people all aspire to it.Design and planning of public space important to maintain and reshape theneighborhoods, but the beginning in China was very late and weak s. Therefore, wepays less attention to the inferior public spaces such as the neighborhoods inside theresidential blocks. As neighborhoods space is the basement to fill the trunk network ofthe public space in old city, it plays an important role in promoting thecommunication, and even stabilizing the social structure. We should notice thatneighborhood communication space is closely related to people’s daily lift. Itseffectiveness should be emphasized by planners.This paper is focus on the remodeling of neighborhoods and the planning ofneighborhood communication space, trying to make old city of Beijing as example,and analysis the present situation of neighborhood communication space in elements,type and classification, then sum up the problems and potential for development, inorder to propose the basic idea, the control principles, guiding elements and ways todesign space for the overall construction of neighborhood communication space. It is the hope to share the research result for future design and provide reference value.
