It is well known that deep-vee hull form has a good seakeeping performance and high speed. During the past decade, deep-vee hull form interests many professional researchers in U.S., U.K., China, and so forth. Now, many countries in the world have just commenced to develop practicable naval ship with deep-vee hull form. Some specialist point out that deep-vee hull form is mainstream of monohull naval ship in the future. Under such background circumstances, it is essential to study deep-vee hull form design for developing future naval ships. Seakeeping of a naval ship with deep-vee hull form is highly related to the principal dimensions, V-shape character (deadrise angle) immergence at fore and after, knuckle lines. The goal and purpose of this research are to study the concept design for a4,000to5,000tonnes destroyer with deep-vee hull form and configurations of ship hull, further analyze the master factors affecting performance by numerically calculating stability, resistance and seakeeping respectively. Finally, optimization object for sea-keeping is set up, and the hull form of the destroyer is given by modifying and optimizing.Hull form geometry parameters play a major role in influencing the seakeeping of the ship. One of the problems for the designer is to choose which parameter to be changed and by how much should the parameter be changed to be most effective. Often changes in one parameter will affect other parameters. Thus, this project describes the methodology for modifying the hull form in the preliminary design stage to obtain the optimum hull form with minimum motion and hence generate a hull form with better seakeeping characteristics. To ensure a clear relationship between changes in hull parameters and seakeeping performance, the deep-vee hull form was varied systematically by modifying deadrise angle and creating various variants. The modification and computation of seakeeping characteristics were carried out using Maxsurf softwares. Assessments of the variants were carried out using criteria such as vertical and lateral accelerations, roll and pitch motion. By comparing results, the optimum hull form was identified.
