Study On The Campus Environment And Configuration Of Plant In Wuhan University

With the rapid development of higher education, campus environment has been caught more and more concerned. It is closely integrated with its natural condition, social and economic condition, historical and cultural development, and the level of its owned research. During more than 100 years of development and construction, great changes in campus environment have been taken place in Wuhan University. Compared with inner-provincial colleges and universities, it is the masterpiece and exemplar of moderntime campus. The State Council announced it as the fifth installment of the national key cultural relic protection units in 2001. But compared with other time-honored domestic colleges and universities (such as Tsinghua University,Beijing University and so on), or compared with foreign universities(such as Harvard University), whether rin the overall layout of the campus, the planning form of green space, distribution methods and green forms of functional areas, creating the plant landscape, or the aspects reflected on the local characteristics and historical and cultural atmosphere,there are still some certain gaps.Firstly, this study linked with a lot of home and abroad literatures related to the theories the construction of campus environment and plant landscape to do a theoretical summary on these respects such as the development of campus environment and Plant configuration, environmental landscape series, the principles of landscape design, types and varieties of plant landscape configuration, the methods and models of landscape configuration, the development trend of campus environment and plant configuration,and so on.Secondly this study followed the combination of theory and literature related graphic materials to analysis the application of campus green plant species in Wuhan University, the layout of campus landscape sequence, vegetative landscape in typical regions and reach the following results:(1) Wuhan university campus took full advantage of its affluent plant resource and predominance of landform, setting the Luojia Hill and Lion Hill as its greenheart, four main plant scenic spots as its feature, aquatic system greening as its intersperse, road network as its green line, classical architecture, square and different types of sectorizations (such as teaching and office quarters, physical activities quarters and so on) as its green plane, forming organic arranging campus landscape series. We summarized briefly that the layout of campus landscape in Wuhan University is the ordered and well-bedded combination of series human landscape and plantscape, which have ordered spatial structure and are closely integrated.(2) There were 97 familia,232 genus,330 species of plants using for campus greening in Wuhan Univerity,5 familia,5 genus,6 species of which are ferns,7 familia,17 genus,22 species of which are gymnosperms,85 familia,17 genus,22 species of which are angiosperms. We did the concrete analysis of that plants for park use (such as street trees, specimen trees, park trees, flower and bush, hedge, flowerbed and presbyopic glasses, plants for vertical greening, hydrophyte, ground covers), and the aesthetic enjoyment features (such as shape, flower, leaf, fruit, branch, rhizome). Combining the use form of the plants, we also concretely analyzed the actual state of plant furnishing in Wuhan University:(i) Indigenous plants and exotic plants which had adapted to the local habitat were all used; (ii) keynote species and backbone species were chosen properly; (iii) cover plants were chosen according to circumstances; (iv) methods of landscaping were heterogeneous; (v) many kinds of styles, skills and modes for plant furnishing were used. According to the results of the application of plants and plant furnishing discussed above, we had generalized the features of plant application and furnishing in Wuhan University:(i) The global viewing was considered importantly; (ii) seasonal aspect was distinct, and formed unique plantscape; (iii) exotic plants were made full use; (iv) plant application and furnishing were developing to the greening mode of multi arrangement.(3) The typical areas such as school gate quarters, living quarters, teaching and office quarters, physical activities quarters, chief scenic spots and so on were chosen to analyze the plantscape in Wuhan University, embodying the features of each quarters outstandingly.Finally, considering the results, we thought the campus landscape in Wuhan University had the following problems:(i) The plants of each sectorization were too similar, and the features were not outstanding; (ii) indigenous plants were not made full use; (iii) diversity of the park plants was not deficient; (iv) the development of vertical greening was limited; (v) riverside greening was to be enhanced, and the aquatic system greening was lacking of stereoscopic sensation; (vi) the forms of square greening were a little unitary, and the tree species were not affluent; (vii) the forms of road greening were also not multiple, and so on. Thus, we made some corresponding suggestions. We also gave some advice about the construction of campus environment in Wuhan University from the aspects of plant furnishing and constructing campus culture feature, and looked forward to provide basic theoretical references for the sustainable development of campus environment and future greening in Wuhan University, to promote the position and action of Wuhan University in the countrywide construction of campus environment.
