In recent decades, complexes have been receiving much attention due to their colorful structures as well as their potential applications in gas storage, magnetism, catalysis, optics, small molecules and ion recognition and biosensing. Especially carboxylic acid complexes, because of carboxylic acid possess strong coordination ability and diverse coordination model can formed more novel structure of complexes with metal ions. In this paper, the main contents include:First, briefly introduces the concept of complexes and their research progress, the synthesis methods, influence factors and the main applications of complexes are mainly introduced. Based on this, we propose the selected topic significance and the research contents of this paper.Second, five new isostructural complexes {[Ln(pyta)3(phen)]}2·H2O(Ln = Ce(1), Dy(2),Gd(3), La(4), Pr(5))(Hpyta HBr = 2-pyridythioacetic acid hydrobromide and phen =1,10-phenanthroline) were synthesized through volatilization at room temperature and characterized by X-ray single crystal crystallography, IR, X-ray powder diffraction and thermogravimetric analysis. The results of single crystal indicated that they are binuclear structure. Probe activity experimental results of complexes 1-5 indicated that they could be used as the effective sensing platform for the detection of Sudan virus RNA with good selectivity and sensitivity;Third, five new binuclear complexes [Dy(pyta)3(H2O)2]2(6), [Eu(pyta)3(H2O)2]2(7),[Tb(pyta)3(H2O)2]2(8), [Eu(pyta)2(NO3)(2,2’-bipy)]2(9), [Tb(pyta)2(NO3)(2,2’-bipy)]2(10),(Hpyta HBr = 2-pyridythioacetic acid hydrobromide and 2,2’-bipy = 2,2’-bipyridine) were synthesized through volatilization at room temperature and characterized by X-ray single crystal crystallography, IR, X-ray powder diffraction and thermogravimetric analysis. The luminescent properties of complexes 6-10 were investigated. The fluorescence spectra of complexes 6-10 display the strong character emission peaks of the Dy3+, Eu3+ ions or Tb3+ ions, respectively.Hence, complexes 6-10 are likely to be a superior candidate for potential luminescent materials.Small molecular recognition experiments showed that complexes 6-10 could be used as effective fluorescent sensor for the detection of nitrobenzene(NB). Ions recognition experiments indicated that complexes 7, 9, 10 could detect Cu2+ with a mild selective recognition performance.
