Titanium nitride powders present the color of yellowish-brown, the coating and products of TiN show a excellent color of golden yellow. In a word, titanium nitride has perfect decorative effect and ornamental value in the field of decoration, because titanium nitride is harmless and in low cost. What’s more, it have good color performance. So take Titanium nitride into consideration as ceramic pigment, but for its poor high temperature performance-beginning to oxidize at 400 oC, it cannot be directly used as a pigment in ceramics which are commonly fired at the temperature higher than 800 oC. The key to the application of titanium nitride as ceramic pigments is to improve the antioxidant properties of Titanium nitride.Learn from the preperation of encapsulated Cd(SxSe1-x) pigments and encapsulated Carbon black pigments, an attempt was made that Titanium nitride was encapsulated with Zirconium silicate for getting good high temperature performance of TiN. The as-prepared pigments were characterized by laser particle size analyzer, X-ray diffraction, CIE-Lab color measurement, scanning electron microscopy, polarizing microscope, XPS, Fourier transform infrared and polarized optical microscopy, respectively.TiN@ZrSiO4 powders were synthesized by a sol-coprecipitation method using TEOS and zirconium oxychloride as starting materials. X-ray diffraction(XRD), scanning electronic microscope(SEM), colori-meter, Infrared spectrum and polarizing microscope were used to investigate the phase structure, morphology, microstructure and chromaticity of the prepared composite powders, respectively. The effect of experimental conditions including the pH of the precursor solution, the calcination temperature, the type and amount of mineralizers and holding time on their performance was studied by test. The optimal conditions were accordingly determined as follows: precursor solution pH=6, sintering temperature 1100 oC for4 hour and 7wt% NaF mineralizer. Under these conditions, TiN@ZrSiO4 pigments can be obtained with good color rendering performance.Sodium silicate, which is cheap and non-toxic, replace TEOS as silicon source, by coprecipitation method, TiN@ZrSiO4 with perfect core-shell structure have been made at thesintering temperature 1100 o C for 4 hour. the Lab value of composed powder are L=45.07,b=2.31, closing to the Lab value of TiN(L=42.18,b=10.25),This passage tries to analyze through the influence factors of synthesis of zirconium silicate, such as pH of the precursor solution, sintering temperature, holding time and so on, to find out the aspects that hinder the process and also provides the most suitable method of the production. It is a whole new kind of pigments. This method of it has simple production process, short process flow and low cost, endowing it could be industrialized easily, it has a great application prospect.
