Currently, ultrafine powder is widely used in building materials, chemical industry,energy, metallurgy and other industries, Its demand is increasing, and the size requirement is increasingly high. The common method for preparation of ultrafine powder is mechanical crushing method. The horizontal stirred mill, with its products more uniform particle size, smaller particle size, higher energy efficiency and other advantages has been widely applied in the equipment required for mechanical crushing method. Because of the large number of internal grinding media and material of the horizontal stirred mill;Complex motion; Weak basic theory, How to improve the grinding efficiency of stirred mill and reduce the power consumption has always been the topic studied by many domestic and foreign scholars. For this, Taking a horizontal disc stirred mill experimental machine for the study, This paper is based on the discrete element method, simulated the motion of particles with different structure parameters and process parameters. Analyzed the effect of the grinding effect and then optimized the key parameters according to the results in order to improve the performance of the mill.This paper studied the grinding mechanism of the horizontal stirred mill, concluded that the main grinding mechanism of the horizontal stirring mill is the collision and friction between the medium with higher speed and lower speed In the circumferential direction, determined several structural parameters and process parameters which had great influence on the grinding effect based on the theory of stress strength and stress number. selected the clearance between the cylinder and the disc and the pitch of the stirred disc in structural parameters, the filling ratio of medium ball and the stirrer speed in process parameters as research object. Selected 4 different values for each parameter, and arranged the experimental group by the control variable method.This paper is based on discrete element method, established a horizontal disc stirred mill numerical Simulation model by EDEM software, determine the required data such as single average collision energies, collision frequency and the power consumption of the mill, and carried out the simulation experiment. According to the results, analyzed themedium ball movement rule under different parameters by observing and comparing the velocity image.Plotted the curves under different parameters such as single average collision energies, collision frequency and the power consumption of the mill, and analyzed the average impact energy and energy utilization of different parameters.Obtained the optimal structural parameters and process parameters for the better grinding performance of the mill.
