The mechanical properties of tungsten matrix composites are very excellent, so it is widely used in weapons and is a main material that is used to make penetrator. Nowadays, improving the strength and toughness of tungsten alloy is the main topics of the ordnance industry. However, because of processing, transportation and so on, there is a gap on the surface of tungsten matrix composites, which often causes serious stress concentration, finally making the body of penetrator failure. So it is very necessary to research the mechanical properties of tungsten matrix composites with gap. The mechanical properties of tungsten matrix composites are affected by dynamic load in the production, in order to make excellent mechanical properties of tungsten matrix composites to be used, so it is very necessary to research the effect loading rate on the mechanical properties of tungsten matrix composites.The tensile experiment of 93 WiNiFe tungsten alloy in tungsten matrix composites with different gap size is done in four loading rate by HT2402 tensile testing machine, observing the fracture of tungsten alloy by SU8010 field emission scanning electron microscopy. The effect the loading rate, gap size on the tensile mechanical properties of tungsten alloy is researched in this article, the results show:(1)The tensile strength and yield strength of tungsten alloy increase when the loading rate increases;(2) The tensile strength of tungsten alloy decreases and the yield strength of tungsten alloy increases when the gap size increases;(3)The fracture modes of the fracture shift from tungsten particles separate from binding phase to cleavage of tungsten particles with the loading rate increasing.Simulating tensile mechanical properties of tungsten alloy with gap by ANSYS finite element software, comparing calculation results with test results, finding that they are consistent.Analyzing the effect the content, shape of tungsten particle on the mechanical behavior of tungsten alloy by ANSYS finite element software, the results show:(1)Tungsten particles are the main bearing units, high stress is mainly concentrated in tungsten particles;(2)If increasing the content of tungsten particles or changing the shape of tungsten particles, the mechanical properties of tungsten alloy can be improved;(3)The tungsten alloy is stretching, binging phases first break. Stress concentrates in tungsten particles, the fracture modes tend to cleavage fracture of tungsten particles.
