As one of the most important byproducts of steelmaking, converter gas is an important secondary energy of iron and steel production enterprises. Currently, the dust content of converter gas is generally between 10 and 100 mg/m3. It has to reduce to less than 1 mg/m3 for recycle. When the converter gas is mixed with oxygen, there will be a explosion. Theoretical analysis and numerical simulation on explosion venting were performed, as the parameter such as initial temperature, initial pressure, oxygen concentration and the explosion venting value diameter changes.Based on FLUENT software, the author chose a cylindrical ESP as a model, and three-dimensional modeled reasonably. First, the case of cold flow field was analysised, which would be the initial flow field of explosion. The explosion simulation explored the mechanism of converter gas explosion and analyzed the flame and flow filed of explosion under different factors such as concentration of CO, initial pressure, initial temperature, identified the influence of each factors. At last, we know how the pressure drop and how long the explosion venting takes, based on vent opening model as well as the changing of diameter and position of the explosion venting valve. The results show that oxygen concentration has lager influence on explosion process, followed by initial temperature and initial pressure. The highest development rate of temperature reaches to 7.5×105 K/s and the highest development rate of pressure reaches to 1.23×105 kPa/s. The result of venting simulation shows that increasing the diameter valve could improve the rate of explosion venting and reduce the venting time. The venting time reaches to 1.07 s. It takes three vent valves of D=1200 mm the optimization program distributed on the electrostatic precipitatoras evenly, considering the explosion venting efficiency, economical and practicability. The vent valve setting was optimized based on simulation.
