| Five-axis NC machining is a principal method to manufacture sculptured surface. With the popularity of five-axis numerical control technology, it has been unable to meet the practical requirements of the machining efficiency if it relies on ball-end mill for freeform surface machining because of the point contact with the machined surface and a relatively narrow strip width. Relevant research on non-ball-end mill by taking the advantage of five-axis machine tool has been forced on.A wide-strip algorithm which is satisfied by linear contact based non-ball-end mill is given for freeform surface that is reconstructed through reverse engineering modeling techniques. And then, complete processes are put forward. This paper does some research on the following aspects:1. The expression including tilt angle parameter and inclination angle parameter of the tool axis is given in accordance with contact points and information of the sculptured surface. There exists a wide strip at a contact point when high-order contact is met between the tool envelope surface and design surface. Optimization object function is structured by third-order contact as constraint condition. Then, the tool axis will be solved using numerical method.2. Forward step parameters are calculated by maximum chordal deviation. And the whole tool path is completed with offsetting the initial trajectory. The computation of the tool axis is generated using above algorithm via flat-end mill in integral impeller.3. The data points are processed to get edge curves which have the same knots via Interpolation method that is calculated though the algorithms of inverse calculation for control points and knot insertion which is defined by NURBS(non-uniform rational B-splines). The cloud points imported into CATIA are established into 3D modeling.4. Discussion about five-axis NC post-processing for the machine with double tilt rotary table and simulation in Vericut. |
