Plow-Crushing PDC Bit is designed for the hard formation, adopting the stinger cutter with positive cutting angle, showing good results in some field test and lab.test home and abroad. Plow-Crushing PDC Bit provides new thinking fot the hard rock breaking, but as to the mechanism and laws of rock-breaking by the stinger cutter with positive cutting angle, there hardly exist.Based on the explicit dynamic software LS-DYNA, the stinger cutter’s rock-breaking mechanism is studied, as well as the rock-breaking laws by single stinger cutter a nd combined-cutting with the circular PDC cutter.(1) The Finite Element Method of PDC cutter’s rock-breaking numerical simulation is developed, the fragmentation and stress distribution during the rock-cutting process could be obtained.(2) By analyzing th-e fragmentation and stress distribution, the stinger cutter’s rock-breaking mechanism is revealed, contrast to the circular PDC cutter’s rock-cutting mechanism.(3) By consider-ing the fragmentation, horizontal cutting force and MSE, the laws of factors such as cutting angle, cone apex, cutting depths.etc influencing the stinger cutter’s rock-cutting process are studied.(4) By establishing the FEM model of circular PDC cutter cutting rock ridge, the rock-breaking of circular PDC cutters combined with stinger cutter is simulated, as well as the laws of factors such as cutting angle, cutting depths.etc infl-uencing the circular PDC cutter’s cutting rock process studied.
