With the development of economy and society, the demand on energy keeps increasing in our country. More and more oil storage tanks have been constructed. Considering that large oil storage tanks are always far away from the city and laid out densely, and inflammable and explosive gas always exists in surrounding area, the rescue from outside is difficult to reach in time. This requires the water fire-fighting system equipped by the large oil storage tanks to put out the fire and cool the surface of burning tank and adjacent tanks efficiently, so that time can be saved for the arrival of the external rescue teams. Therefore it is important to carry out research on fire prevention and control for large oil storage tanks. The design and testing of the water fire-fighting system has profound practical significance.In this thesis, verification design of water fire-fighting system is carried out for existing oil storage tanks of more than 10000 cubic meters in Xiaoyangshan oil depot. The general plan of the verification design has been determined and each part of the system been designed in detail.After safety and reliability analysis of the water fire-fighting system, key issues on system design and testing are pointed out. New ideas have been proposed to avoid severe pressure drop at the end of the pip routing design in the water-cooling system and to figure out how to test the water fire-fighting system in case that oils are filled in the oil tanks. A new design is depicted for the water cooling system, to avoid severe pressure drop of spay nozzle at the end of the ring canal in conventional design, such that the pressure of the spray nozzle on the top of the tank can be considered with high priority. In order to test the water fire-fighting system when the oil tanks are filled with oil, one testing device is design preliminarily for foam system testing. By using the testing device, the quality of the foam mixture can be checked, meanwhile protecting the oil in the tank from the pollution by the foam mixture. The costly cleaning process for the pipeline is avoided as well. Therefore the test cost can be reduced significantly in the annual test of the foam system.
