In recent years, the increasingly serious problem of water pollution has caused attention. To solve water pollution problems and improve water environmental quality,China issued the national standard “Discharge Standard of Pollutants for Municipal Wastewater Treatment Plants”(GBl8918-2002), department of environmental protection of Shandong issued local water pollutant control standards-“Comprehensive Discharge Standard of Water Pollutants for Shandong Peninsula Drainage Basin”(DB37/676-2007). The government of Qingdao published that wastewater discharged to the Jiaozhou Bay from municipal wastewater treatment plants must reach the first level A standard. Under the new environmental situation, Tuandao wastewater treatment plant of Qingdao is facing against the existing wastewater treatment system upgrade task. Contraposing the current upgrade task requirements of Tuandao wastewater treatment plant of Qingdao, based on the analysis of the treatment capacity with existing process and facilities and the in fluent water quality conditions, the upgrade technical solution was determined, and the treatment process preliminary design was achieved combined with the reality of the wastewater treatment plant. After the upgrade completed, through a certain period of running, the effects of the upgrade project was objectively analyzed, provided technical experience and references for the upgrade of the similar wastewater treatment plant. The analysis result of the upgrade project of Tuandao wastewater treatment plant of Qingdao indicated:(1) The water quality fluctuated significantly, in particular, the industrial effluent disorder discharge leaded to influent water quality wad worse than the original design. So combining the existing influent water quality conditions, through the adjustment of individual water quality indicators, to reasonably determine influent water quality conditions of the upgrade project.(2) The main issues were,(1) TN removal efficiency was low, especially at low temperatures, the system nitrification function was affected, effluent NH3-N and TN were seriously exceeded standards;(2) The contradiction of nitrogen and phosphorus removal was especially notable. In the condition of high TP of influent, the effluent TP far exceeded standard;(3) The treated effluent had persistent fluctuation. Therefore, the focus of the upgrade is to solve the nitrogen and phosphorus removal efficiency and operating stability.(3) The upgrade technical solution was determined, the program is:(1) In the pretreatment unit, increase the wastewater treatment facilities in the aerated grit chamber,.(2) In the biochemical treatment unit, keep the volume of biochemical pond, and cancel the aerobic regulating-pool, increase the anoxic hydraulic retention time,and reinforce the function of nitrogen removal.(3) By adding the suspended careers into the aerobic area, form MBBR biological fluidity bed aerobic reactor, reinforce the nitration function, in particular to solve the problem of the nitrification in low temperature. Set the guide wall among the aerobic area and the anaerobic area to form the circulation reaction on the partial.(4)In the advanced treatment unit, construct the grid reaction inclined lamer sedimentation tank and cloth filter, solve the problem of TP and SS removal in effluent, guarantee the final effluent reach the standard stably.(4) Based on the reasonable upgrade program of Tuandao wastewater treatment plant, combined with existing equipment and facilities conditions, monomer process preliminary design study of this project wastewater treatment unit was achieved.(5)After the wastewater treatment plant upgrade, by a certain period of running, various wastewater treatment indexes could stably achieve the first Level A standard of “Discharge Standard of Pollutants for Municipal Wastewater Treatment Plants”(GB 18918-2002).
