With the properties of wear resistance, high thermal stability, corrosion resistance etc, engineering ceramics have been widely used in mechanical industry, electronics, medical Technology, chemical industry and other fields. But pros always with cons. The hardness and brittleness brings about unpredictable machining damage. The machining damage may lead to the shorter products life and unpredictable failure. This paper investigated the material removal mechanism, lubrication efficiency in ceramic grinding under two dimensional pre-stress, explored the wear resistance of grinding surface and discussed the availability of two dimensional pre-stress grinding. This paper consists of six chapters, each chapter is summarized as follow:Chapter1 generally summarized the development status and trends of engineering ceramics machining, and the research status of engineering ceramics processing mechanism and pre-stressed processing, content and significance of this study.Chapter2 conducted single grit grinding experiments of alumina and zirconia under two-dimensional pre-stress. The material removal mechanism and the restriction of crack propagation under two dimensional pre-stress were investigated.Chapter3 investigated grinding of Alumina and Zirconia under two dimensional pre-stress. The effect of two dimensional pre-stress during ceramic grinding process were explored.Chapter4 brought in CA-MQL grinding technology and investigated the two dimensional pre-stress grinding using wet lubrication and CA-MQL. In this chapter, grinding force, grinding surface morphology and grinding surface residual stress were explored to show the different effects of lubricant type on two dimensional pre-stress grinding.Chapter5 explored the wear resistance of two dimensional pre-stress grinding surface of Al2O3 and ZrO2 and investigated the wear resistance of grinding surface between the pre-stress grinding and normal grinding.Chapter6 concluded the results of each chapter. It summarized the existing problems in the article, and put forward the proposal of future study on this research direction. This article investigated the single grit grinding, abrasive grinding, the wear resistance of surface after grinding and the abrasive grinding under different lubrication methods. The results showed that the existence of two-dimensional pre-stress have a significant effect on inhibiting engineering ceramic machining damage. At the same time, appropriate lubrication for different grinding parameters will further reduce grinding damage, will improve processing efficiency and will reduce machining costs.
