Organic composites are widely used in engineerings as the structural materials due to their excellent mechanical properties and the low density. As for those exposed in the open air conditions for long term use, concerns for their anti-corrosion and weathering resistance behaviors should be raised, and multilayered composites are routinely selected to meet the requirements. The study here focuses on the fabrication of multilayed composites that can last decades long in the open air atmosphere. The main works include materials selection, composite design, fabrication, environmental and mechanical tests, and statistical analyses. And they are:(1)Fluropolymers, i.e., PTFE, PVF, have been selected as the surface materials for the concerns of weathering resistance, while PET thin film and the textile of glass fibers have been selected to ensure the mechanical strength of overall structure.(2)Two kinds of composites, i.e., glass fiber textile coated by PTFE resin and PET thin film bonded by PVF thin films(TPT), have been designed and fabricated.(3)In order to evaluate the quality of fabrication processes, the mechanical behaviors of fabricated composites have been investigated after having been exposed to various environmental atmosphere such as salt fog, acidic solution, solar radiation, UV radiation, hot humidity and low temperature.(4)The influence of defect like surface scratch in the tensile strength has been investigated for TPT composite. We have also studied the possible attack of glass fibers by NaCl solution, which may cause the property deterioration of the fabricated composite made by PTFE and glass fibers.
