The Design Study Of The Tenon-Mortise Structure Based On The Constructivism

The tenon-mortise structure which has a long history and complex changes faces the problem in inheritance. Although many scholars offered opinions, these ideas could not form a systematic design theory. As the Constructivism is a comprehensive and systematic design theory. Therefore, this article combined with the Constructivism and tenon-mortise structure to carry out the research of design.First of all, it is analyzed that principles of the Constructivism which can be applied in furniture design, and using this principle to guide the analysis of design factors of the tenon-mortise structure. Then, combining the design principles with design factors to get the design method of tenon-mortise structure based on the theory of constructivism. In the end, it is carried out the design practice of different tenon-mortise structure according to the design method. The main conclusions and results of research are as follows:(1) It is obtained tecnonics, texture and construction three principles of the Constructivism which can be applied in the furniture design.According to the constructivism, this article divided 139 collected kinds of the tenon-mortise structure from east and west into point, line, surface, body four categories. And making a list of the details of each type of tenon-mortise structure, to provide reference for tenon-mortise structure design.(2) It is analyzed that the influencing factors of China’s national conditions for tenon-mortise structure design and found the direction of tenon-mortise structure design should be with practical function, capable of mass production, combined with new technologies and materials and the preservation of traditional culture or style.(3) The 20 design method based on four categories of tenon-mortise structure and three principles of the Constructivism includes removable design, multi-functional design, paint handling and so on.(4) According to the design method, this paper carries out the practice of the four categories tenon-mortise structure, including shape design and integrated design, making three kinds of chairs, a side table, a desk, with the certain consideration on user, material and function. And it is constructed that the tenon-mortise structure design system based on the Constructivism.
