In order to know the pyrolysis characteristics of artificial board, this study use particleboard, poplar and urea-formaldehyde resin adhesive as raw material. The experiment equipments include thermal analyser, thermogravimetry coupled with infrared spectroscopy and elementary analyzer. Thermal decomposition kinetics are built in this study, and kinetic parameters are calculated.Thermal analysis results show that, the initial temperature of main pyrolysis stage of particleboard is lower poplar because of the effect of urea-formaldehyde resin adhesive. The temperature range of main pyrolysis stage of particleboard is 180-355℃, but the temperature range of main pyrolysis stage of poplar is 180~360℃. The thermogravimetric curves of particleboard are in front of the thermogravimetric curves of poplar. The mass loss rate of particleboard is greater than the mass loss rate of poplar. The mass loss rate of poplar is 4.20%/min, and the characteristic temperature is 331℃. The mass loss rate of particleboard is 4.22%/min, and the characteristic temperature is 327℃. The DSC curves of particleboard and poplar are basically the same tendency, but the peak intensity of particleboard DSC curves are more obvious than the peak intensity of poplar.According to Kissinger differential method, the activation energy of poplar is 156.91 kJ/mol, and the activation energy of urea-formaldehyde resin adhesive is 239.10 kJ/mol, and the activation energy of particleboard is 165.65 kJ/mol.According to distributed activation energy model, the activation energy curver shape of poplar and particleboard are basically the same. The activation energy of particleboard is lower than poplar because of the promotion of urea-formaldehyde resin adhesive. The activation energy of poplar and particleboard are in the rang of 140-200 kJ/mol.The effect of urea-formaldehyde resin adhesive to pyrolysis gasous products of particleboard is nitrogenous gases. In the second pyrolysis stage, gas evolution curve of particleboard has two peaks, and more HNCO, NH3 are detected in the gas compositions of particleboard, and peaks of CO, CO2, C=O are not obvious than poplar. Urea-formaldehyde resin adhesive has promotion effect to the pyrolysis of particleboard on the whole.
