Environmental issues in today’s society attract more and more attention, developing a cost-efficient adsorbent to adsorb heavy metal chromium ions in wastewater has become one of the hotspots of current research. In this paper, waste wool, which is low price and wide coverage, has been taken to remove heavy metal chromium ions in water. It is found that through experiments, waste wool shows good adsorption capacity to chromium ions. The main contents and results are as follows:Strip the scales of waste wool and observe the removal of the case by scanning electron microscopy. Select the root of sulfosalicylic acid, citrate acid and oxalate acid as ligand to coordinate with chromium(III),through continuous transformation method to determine the best proportion between chromium(III) and ligands.Examine the influence of the factors on adsorption effect by the solution p H value, adsorption temperature, adsorption time, etc. Then ascertain the best adsorption process of chromium(VI) and chromium(III) ions.Meanwhile the impact on adsorption of treated waste wool is compared with untreated. And the enfluence of chromium(III) on adsorption effect bought by different ligands. The adsorption data were fitted by Langmuir and Freundlich adsorption isotherm equation, found that both of the equations can well describe the adsorption behavior of chromium(VI), chromium(III) is given priority to with the Langmuir adsorption isotherm.Adsorption kinetics showed that the proposed second-order equation can well describe the removal of chromate ions. The thermodynamic parameters showed that the adsorption of chromium ions is a spontaneous endothermic reaction. The infrared spectroscopy of chromium(III) complexes showed that the coordination ability of oxalate root implied the strongest, but after the coordination of citrate root chromium(III) ion’s removal effect is best. Before and after absorption the infrared spectra and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy of waste wool indicated that adsorption is the result of the electrostatic binding and chelation.Recycling study showed that after three cycles later, waste wool still has a certain adsorption capacity. It is found that compared with other absorbent material waste wool has a high adsorption capacity. Therefore, waste wool has good value and prospects in terms of adsorption to remove chromium ions. 19 Pictures, 21 tables and 62 references...
