In the process of China’s economic construction and rapid development, as the non-renewable resources of mineral resources is more and more difficult to meet the demand. Due to the mining scale and mining intensity of open-pit mine growing, high and steep slope’s stability will be the first to be faced in large open-pit mines. Many engineering examples show that high and steep slope with stratified rock mass structure is most easy buckling failure and cause great harm. For High and steep bedding rock slope, doing depth and comprehensive study, mastering the deformation regularity and failure mode and learning the influence factors of slope stability is the way to ensure its security and stability. In this paper, taking Xiaohebian iron mine of Kunming Iron & Steel Holding Co as the research object, similar model test research and catastrophe theory are used to research high and steep bedding rock slope. The main research are as follows:(1) Combining with the research development history and current situation of the slope stability at home and abroad, slope stability analysis and research findings of bedding rock slope, the study can continue the research of bedding rock slope in failure mechanism and failure mode, fully grasp the characteristics of bedding rock slope, put forward reasonable treatment countermeasures.(2) First, similarity criterion is derived based on the similarity principle. Reasonable similarity constant is selected combine with the research object engineering characteristics and experimental conditions decide, then experiment parameters can be determined. Second, selecting similar model material research on proportioning test, choosing model in severe, compressive strength, elastic modulus, Poisson’s ratio similarity with the prototype determine the optimal proportion plan. Last, the selection of artificial layered filling compaction method to model the pile, layout of observation points, observe model deformation law.(3) Using hydraulic servo loading system, through the method of top load instead of the upper rock mass, complete the top load experiment, researching the deformation law of that slope is increased. The load value of alternative rock mass is converted by similarity criterion, at the same time, achieve the goal that on the small model simulate high slope, we can get slip-bending buckling failure mode of the high and steep bedding rock slope through it.(4)By analyzing mechanical behavior of high and steep bedding rock slope in slip-bending, for the nonlinear characteristics of bedding slope deformation, cusp catastrophe theory sets up bedding slope system model, reproducing that the strata axial force and gravity stress gradual changing lead to slope disaster process.
