Cemented carbide is one of the most widely used cutting tool materials in modern industry. Improving the surface wear resistance or reducing the surface friction coefficient can prolong the life and improve the cutting performance of cemented carbide tools. Depositing coating on cemented carbide cutting tool is an effective method to enhance the performance of cemented carbide surface. Carbon-based coating and Me-Si-C coatings are excellent anti-wear coatings for their low friction coefficient and great wear resistance property. The most popular Me-Si-C series coating is Ti-Si-C coating. Ti-Si-C on Cemented carbide cutting tools can improve the tool performance. In order to solve the basic problems of Ti-Si-C applied to cemented carbide cutting tool, the equipment modification, coating structure design and preparation of Ti-Si-C coating were carried out in this thesis. The main work and results are as follows:1. According to the characteristics and usage requirements of Ti-Si-C coating deposition, the principle of Ti-Si-C coating preparation equipment improvement was determined and the reforming plan was made. The structure of gas path was designed. The deposition parameters such as gas flow rate and gas composition can be controlled automatically in the improved equipment. The improved coating deposition equipment runs steadily and it can meet the demand of Ti-Si-C coating preparation.2. The finite element method was used to study the thermal stress of Ti-Si-C coating on cemented carbide. At the same time, the structure of Ti-Si-C coating was designed aimed at lower stress.3. The experiments of Ti-Si-C coating preparation on cemented carbide substrate were carried out. The influence of deposition temperature, Silicon source concentration, pressure, depositing temperature on the growth of Ti-Si-C coating was studied. The proper process parameters through the experiment were obtained. Ti-Si-C coating on cemented carbide was deposited. SEM, EDS, XPS and other modern physical and chemical analysis technologies were employed to analyze the Ti-Si-C coating. The research results will promote the application of Ti-Si-C coating in the tool industry.
