Landfill leachate is a kind of high concentration organic wastewater produced from municipal solid waste piling and landfill process. It is marked by great changes in quality and quantity, complex composition, high pollutant content features, and containment of a large number of pathogens. Leachate is an important source of pollution of refuse disposal and a typical poor treatable wastewater with high costs. In Shanxi area seasons change significantly and the mean annual precipitation is far less than the amount of evaporationit results in leachate varies widely in composition.Hence recirculation is more advantageous than other technologies. Leachate recirculation could accelerate the stabilization processand reduce and the production of leachate, which has good applicability for the arid or semiarid area with small amount of rainfall and large evaporation.In Shanxi, the present results of domestic waste and infiltration filtrate treatment show that the constructed garbage disposal projects and projects under construction employing landfill accounts for 88% of the total, which showed that the landfill is still as the main way of garbage disposal. Recirculation treatment of landfill leachate accounts for 70%. Leachate recirculation with advantages of simple process, low cost of construction, and operation has been widely used in Shanxi.The thesis proposes the concept of the whole course control on leachate which manages the leachateduring the waste treatment process including production,collection, transportation, and disposal. It summarizes the various infiltration of maximum reduction technology of leachate includingpre control, storage and floor circulation, and the implementation of the measures.The studies on a typical Shanxi landfill treatment show that recirculation can realize maximum reduction of leachate. The paper proposes the boundary parameters of maximum reduction depending on the different landfill scale by the combination with theoretical analysis and practical accounting. In Shanxi, considering the landfill leachate features and climatic conditions, landfills with processing scale 100, 200, 300,400, and 500 t/d should be equiped with corresponding the leachate regulation pool volume and echarging evaporation area. The former should reach 2500, 3900, 5100,6300 and 7000m3 respectively. The latter including waste body, green belt should reach30300, 41750, 52100, 64550, and 72800m2 respectively. In this thesis, the design and construction of the whole course control on the leachate and the boundary parameters of landfill seepagenot only realize the maximum reduction of landfill leachate, but also save investment and reduce operation cost. The paper provides the theory of landfill leachate recirculation treatment and maximum reduction engineering design and application in Shanxi.Leachate recirculation treatment is a more economical way of filtrate treatment and operation management of landfill. It shows wide application prospect in Shanxi and the other northern areas. Furthermore, recirculation is a necessary complement to the maximum reduction of waste water in a landfill with waste water treatment station.
