In this paper, two kinds of Eucommia Ulmodies gum (EUG and TPI) were modified by means of homogeneous solution hydrogenation to obtain a new elastomer at room temperature, which provides a promising modified method for trans-rubber, solving the key problem that Eucommia Ulmodies gum cannot be used widely in traditional rubber industry. Pure EUG was obtained through the comprehensive extraction method and the main properties, such as purity, the molecular weight and the crystallization condition, were measured by GPC and DSC. Then RuCl3ยท3H2O/PPh3/C2H5OH and RhCl(PPh3)3/PPh3 were chosen as the catalytic system for the hydrogenation of EUG and TPI, respectively. The degree of hydrogenation, structural transformation, and crystallization condition and grain size were studied through the 1H-NMR,13C-NMR, WAXD and PLM, etc. Finally, performances of vulcanized HTPI with different degrees of hydrogenation were tested by means of tensile test, DMTA and hot air aging test. It was found that the hydrogenated products not only maintained good mechanical properties, but also improved the heat resistance air aging property, when compared with TPI.
