With the improvement of people’s material living standards and the combination of culture and arts between eastern and western, the market demand of the red lanterns increase with each passing day which is the representation of traditional folk art of the Chinese nation. As an important part of red lanterns, the lantern frame can guarantee the beauty and the toughness of lanterns. As the processing molding methods still in the state of half manual operation, the problems of low efficiency and high cost still exist in making lanterns. Therefore, in order to shorten the product manufacturing cycle, so as to improve the production efficiency and reduce production costs, the automated molding machine of lantern frame is needed to replace the half manual operation mode.In this paper, the wire forming method and development of automatic wire forming machine were reviewed both at home and abroad. According to structure characteristics of lantern frame, the bending forming method and technological process of the lantern frame is determined. After analyzing the wire bending deformation process, the spring-back phenomenon of forming process was analyzed, and the bending Angle and bending radius of forming punch was calculated by deducing the formula of spring-back Angle and radius of the bend. The spread length formula of the wire was expounded. The above work lay a theoretical foundation for design and structure modeling of subsequent forming module.Combined with the bending forming method, the general planning and working principle were analyzed. In order to facilitate the design and analysis progress, the complete machine was divided into several modules by adopting the idea of modularization,such as straightening machine module, wire feeding module, shear module, forming module, welding module and other auxiliary module, etc. Three-dimensional structure of the various modules is designed in detail by using the engineering application software Inventor. Combined with the 3d model, the function and constitute of each module are expounded.In order to determine the material of mold, statics analysis of the moving mold group was carried out by using the Workbench function analysis module of ANSYS software in this paper. In order to guarantee the wire feeding accuracy, the static error of wire feeding process was analyzed. The original length of wire should be reduced with the diameter increase. The mode of vibration and inherent frequency of cylinder rod were achieved by Rayleigh-Ritz Method. And the dynamic influential factors were preliminary analyzed, which lay the foundation for size optimization.Finally, the cylinder rod and original length of wire was optimized. The whole assembly equipment was tested, the results showed that the design for rapid molding machine of lantern frame in this paper can meet the requirements. And each module performed reliably.
