Superabsorbent materials, also known as super water absorption, generally dry solid powder or particle called the superabsorbent(SAR for short), is firstly researched and application as functional polymer materials by the north agricultural research institute in the 1960 s. Superabsorbent material with strong hydrophilic groups and slightly crosslinked network structure, always can absorb the moisture of hundreds of thousands of times their own, and can still keep moisture with stress, playing irreplaceable role in agriculture, forestry, public health, oil production, packaging and other fields. However, the traditional superabsorbent materials are mainly made from acrylic petrochemical products, mechanical strength of gel will turn down after absorbing water, absorbing mechanism is also at the exploration stage. Riching raw material types, using less petrochemical products, improving the gel strength with high water absorption at the same time have become the current problems. Itaconic acid(IA), a kind of the natural fermented product, acted as the main monomer in preparation of superabsorbent materials respectively by inverse suspension polymerization and aqueous solution polymerization. The main research contents are as follows:(1) Superabsorbent resin was prepared by itaconic acid and acrylic acid(AA) as monomer, potassium persulfate(KPS) as initiator and N,N-methylene bisacrylamide(MBA) as crosslinking agent, while the advantage of inverse suspension polymerization had been taken with cyclohexane as oil phase, span-80 as dispersant. The monomer ratio of AA and IA, neutralization degree of acrylic acid, crosslinking agent concentration and the oil-water ratio and various factors were invetigated on the water absorption properties. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy(FT-IR), thermal gravity(TG) and scanning electron microscope(SEM) had been adopted for characterization of superabsorbent resin.(2) Superabsorbent material was synthesized by itaconic acid and acrylamide(AM) as the monomer, KPS and tetramethyl ethylenediamine(TEMED) as redox initiator system, MBA as crosslinking agent, with aqueous solution polymerization. The quality ratio of the IA and AM, the concentration of the monomer AM, polymerization temperature, itaconic acid neutralization degree, crosslinking agent and initiator dosage and other factors affecting the performance of water absorption were focused on the research, using FT-IR and TG for characterization.(3) Itaconic acid and AM as the monomer had been taken for preparation of superabsorbent material, KPS and TEMED as redox initiator system, MBA for chemical crosslinking agent, calcium hydroxide as the ionic crosslinking agent and using aqueous solution polymerization. The itaconic acid neutralization degree kept on 90%, sodium hydroxide and calcium hydroxide were mixed with itaconic acid. The neutralization degree of itaconic acid mixed with calcium hydroxide, the effect on water absorption performance of the gel and resin respectively, the influence of retention and gel strength had been investigated. The FT-IR, X-ray diffraction(XRD) and SEM had been taken for characterization of super absorbent materials.
