In the contents of environmental protection, a major task is to protect water resources. With the aggravation of environmental pollution, people’s living water was affected greatly. So it is particularly important to monitor the water quality of rivers, reservoirs, ground water and other major water.Although our country land area ranks third in the world, but because China’s large population, the per capita water resources are very scarce. People in the development of science and technology, and at the same time they wanton destruction of the environment, pollution of water resources, the water quality safety of major rivers and lakes be placed in jeopardy. This point has already seriously affected the social sustainable development strategy of our country, become a limiting factor of social development. Automatic water quality monitoring system can detect the current river water quality real-time, accurate, and upload the water quality parameters to the environmental protection department. Once the water is found to have abnormal phenomenon, we can take protective measures in a timely manner. Our government attaches great importance to the construction of water quality monitoring project, it is the main technical methods of water resources protection, and it has a great strategic significance.In this paper, we designed the water quality automatic monitoring system based on the principle of protected water quality. It mainly includes:Firstly, based on the demand of water quality monitoring system, the overall design of automatic monitoring system is accomplished.Secondly, in order to meet the system technical requirements of the normal power supply and the order of actions. The main electric circuit, control circuit, communication circuit and water-gas path was designed on the basis of the whole design, and it was also designed that formulation of electrical circuit diagram, analysis of water sample pretreatment system map and so on.Thirdly, in order to make the whole monitoring system to realize the integration of control and management, the Siemens PLC and industrial computer hardware platform was combined in it. Then development of the FameView configuration software, using PLC control theory to design and implement the system data processing inside, data transfer between the monitoring instruments and other functions, complete the design of the program with industrial control software and the design of I/O list with PLC.Finally, summary of the above design, establishing the whole system and assembling a complete monitoring system, and test the system. From the result of the test, we can know the monitoring parameter is correct, and the catastrophe parameters are not found in the monitoring process. The test results are compared with the standard data from local environmental protection department, and the comparison results show the reliability of the system.
