As a part of machine electrical systems, machine cables take responsibility for the transmission of electric energy and electric signal. It may affect the security and stability of machine electrical systems when we fail to replace aging cables. Further, premature or frequent replacement of cables may affect the productivity and increase the production cost of companies. There remains the difficult task of assessment the life of machine cables effectively and replacement of the aging and failure of cables.In order to research the stability of machine commonly used cables, which insulation layer is polyvinyl chloride, this paper takes full account of the work environment and operation modes, and its main points are summarized as follows:(1) A test platform is designed for cables. Firstly, in order to simulate a variety of work environments of machine cables, an aging tank is designed in the hardware of the test platform. Further, integrated controllers, servo motors and some control circuits of the GUC series are introduced in the control system. Consequently, the hardware structure of the entire control system has the openness and better stability.(2) Software is designed for cable test systems. Based on the software development environment of Visual Studio2010, rapid aging programs and cable on-off test programs by controller I/O resource are written. As a result, the test bed running, reciprocating-off times and cable faults of a test platform can be displayed using a friendly man-machine interface.(3) A hot air aging test and tensile test are given to the cable insulation, respectively. A tensile test of cable insulations is given in different temperatures after dispose of thermal aging. The preparation of insulating specimens, selection of test devices, determination of aging temperatures and tensile test procedures, analysis of data are obtained according to the national standard. (4) Analysis data and estimate life of aging tests. A mathematical model is designed after extracting the aging test data of tensile tests, and test data are disposed and analyzed by MATLAB, which has powerful function computing capabilities.The round trips of PVC cables in the cable testing platform can be up to a million times in a variety of environments; Meanwhile, function relation between temperatures and thermal aging life are obtained to give theoretical basis of thermal aging life forecast after disposing and analyzing the data of insulated thermal aging tests.
