Cemented carbide materials have series of advantages, for example, high hardness, good strength and toughness and good wear resistance. Cemented carbide materials are widely used in metal processing.Powder extrusion molding is one of the most important ways to manufacture cemented carbide bars. Developing of the process parameters in traditional methods always faces significant limitations. Compared with the traditional methods, the theoretical research methods and the FEM simulation methods can effectively save cost and reduce experiment period. In this paper, we studied the mechanism of deformation of material during extrusion forming. Upper bound analysis for extrusion process can get the theoretical calculation formula of extrusion. At the same time we also simulate extrusion forming process for cemented carbide bars. The main research contents and results are as follows:(1) We studied the mechanism of powder extrusion forming process and some theory of metal plastic forming. In this paper, we used upper bound and FEM simulation methods.(2) Based on the mechanism of extrusion forming, we had been calculated the extrusion pressure by using upper bound analysis for extrusion process. And the theoretical calculation formula of extrusion can agree with the experimental verification. In addition, we also analyzed the influence of various process parameters for the extrusion pressure, and we can conclude that extrusion pressure increased when the extrusion ratio, half cone angle of conical die, friction coefficient, length and other process parameters increased.(3)We simulated extrusion forming process for cemented carbide bars by using Abaqus. The results indicated that the extrusion speed, coefficient of friction, half cone angle of conical die, extrusion ratio influence extrusion process. When die cone angel is 60°, extiusion speed is 4mm/s, friction coefficient is 0.1 and extrusion ratio is 10,the simulating results of cemented carbide rod billet forward extrusion are basically consistent with the actual results.
