Because of the excellent mechanical properties, such as high strength, high hardness, high corrosion resistance and good magnetic properties, amorphous alloy has been expected to be used in varies of fileds. Dispite the excellent mechanical properties of amorphous alloy, however, there are several drawbacks that prevent their application and development . For example, there are few cast ing methods available which can cont inuously produce products of amorphous alloy. The Technique of continuous casting with hot mould is a novel near-net-shape process to continuously prepare alloys. So it is bel ieved that continuous cast ing method can be aviable fabricat ion process for the cont inuous fabrication of bulk amorphous alloy rods, which has advantages of cost -effective and high-product ivity rather than conventional methods. Therefore, the research on cont inuous casting process of Zr -based amorphous alloy has important signi ficance.The proper parameters to fabricate Zr 55Al10Ni5Cu30 alloy by continuous casting process was studied in this paper. The parameters of cast ing process were adjusted for the preparation of different structures of Zr -based alloy to analyze the influence of process parameters on the Zr-based alloy structure and propert ies. The influence of process parameters on amorphous formation abili ty was analyzed to optimize the parmeters. Finally, amorphous alloy is prepared successfully by continuou s cast ing process.First of all , alloy with good amorphous structure were prepared by smelt ing industrials grade materials with copper mold casting. The temperature of melted alloy was analyzed to influence amorphous formation ability. Glass forming ability is enchancing as the melt temperature is increasing. The hardness of the sample was measured as about 540. Experiments showed that the industr ial grade mater ials were available to prepare amorphous alloy.Secondly, parameters of continuous casting molding were identified by preparat ion of Zr-based alloy. The Zr55Al10Ni5Cu30 al loy rod with a diameter of 8mm and 1500mm for length has been produced by continuous cast ing process. The processing parameter as follows: melt temperature is between 950℃ and 1000℃, drawing speed at between 1mm/s and 9mm/s, holding time 1 hour, mold temperature is between 850℃ and 1000℃. Under the condi tions of other parameters unchangement , the components of amorphous alloy increase with the increasing of traction speed. The Zr55Al10Ni5Cu30 glassy alloy rod has been prepared with proper processing parameter. The parameter is that: 1000℃, mold temperature is about 950℃ , drawing speed is between 3mm/s and 5mm/s. Hardness was measured and its value was 600, which is higher than value of crystal alloy. Experiments show that preparation of amorphous al loy is feasible by cont inous casting process.
