Isobutyl acetate is an important organic chemical raw material which is widely used in industries such as medicine and paint etc. But the presence of sulfuric acid catalytic esterification process has some disadvantages such as serious corrosion of equipment, side reaction and unmanageable waste liquid and etc. Catalytic distillation is a technical of combining reaction with distillation,with its own unique advantages. In this paper, the process of catalytic distillation of Isobutyl acetate was investigated with cation exchange resin as catalyst.The thesis was contained the following chapters:(1) Acetic acid and isobutanol as raw materials and cation exchange resin as catalyst, the synthesis of isobutyl acetate was studied. Catalyst-bundles of ion exchange resin were packed in a column as reaction zone.The isobutyl acetate flows out of the column bottom was investigated in this paper.The influence of various operating parameters, such as, feed space velocity,reboiler duty and mole rate of ethanol to acetic acid on the conversion of acetate and the yield of isobutyl acetate was studied. As a result.at the best condition, the conversion of acetate reached 97.59%, and the yield of isobutyl acetate was 96.21%, isobutyl acetate concentration was 96.03% in the bottom.(2) The kinetic of the Synthesis of isobutyl acetate was measured in a batch stirred reactor with Amberlyst-36 Wet cation exchange resin as catalyst. The effect of stirring speed, size of the catalyst, temperature, concentration of catalyst, the ratio of isobutanol to acetic on the rate of esterification was studied. The homogeneous kinetics were performed to stimulate process. The homogeneous model was found to describe the synthesis of acetic acid and alcohol butyl esterification process well by comparing simulation and experimental results.(3) Equilibrium stage model was established to simulate the process of esterification of isobutanol and acetic acid.The simulation result is satisfactory. And the influence factors of on the content of isolsobutyl acetate in tower kettle and isobutanol conversion rate, such as theoretical number of plates of rectifying section and stripping section and catalytic section.feeding location,feeding temperature and acid- alcohol ratio were investigated.
