In recent years, many oilfields have been in the later development stage. When we drill with regular drilling fluid,we face many problems, including circulation loss, differential pressure sticking, etc. Compared with regular drilling fluid,micro-foam drilling fluid has its particular advantages including low density and unique shut off capacity. Combined with the practical situation of Jilin oil field, the article selected foaming agent and foam stability agent by evaluating its foam ability and half-life, manufacture its performance in the laboratory. On this basis, this paper presents results of bubble size distribution, stabilization and statistical evaluation of rheological behavior of micro-foam drilling fluids. The stability analysis of micro-foam drilling fluids is investigated using drainage rate measurement, monitoring bubble growth rate and shear stress/shear rate measurement over time. Eight rheological models are also employed to make a quantitative description of the shear flow behavior of micro-foam drilling fluid based drilling fluids. The applicability of each model is examined in detail. Finally, a new model is put forward to combine the effects of temperature and shear rate on the viscosity of micro-foam drilling fluid based drilling fluids. The results of this study can be helpful in selecting the appropriate procedure for utilizing the micro-foam drilling fluid based drilling fluids in oilfield drilling operation.
