Polyimide (PI) is a kind of important functional polymer material. PI possess excellent chemical stability, mechanical properties and thermodynamic performance and comprehensive performance because of their heat resistance, high strength, light weight. Therefore, PI can be widely used in various fields of production and living. However, commercially available polimide has a strong interaction between chains of PI, which result in the consequence of high melting point and temperature. As PI widely used in the production and living, the green degradation of PI has become one of the most significant and difficult problems.Firstly, the significant of PI research was discussed by its development, advantages, and degradation performance, and mainly studied degradation mechanism and results under different conditions(thermal oxidation, hydrolysis, carbonization and radiation).Based on the conjugate structure of hydroxyl pyridine and lactam, A PI with phenyl-2-pyridyl ethers structure was designed through modification of PI structure.12 kinds of PI was synthesized by three different two phenol monomer, with four kinds of chiral polymer. The PI synthesized by pyrocatechol contains phenyl-2-pyridyl ethers structure, whose physical, thermal, mechanical properties and degradation performance was explored here. Results show the new PI increased its dissolution degradation performance, and continued its other original excellent performance.’H-NMR、13C-NMR、XSCD、MS、IR and elementary analyzer characterized the structure. PI Front-back molecular weight of degradation was studied and compared by gel permeation chromatography(GPC).The PI degradation mechanism was deduced by results above all. Finally resorcinol and R-binaphthol tested the degradation mechanism on same conditions and methods.The experimental results prove that the PI gained excellent solution and degradation performance, by phenyl-2-pyridyl ethers structure, maintained its excellent comprehensive performance. The PI degradation mechanism was arrived, with verification of chiral PI.
