With the improvement of living standards, people’s demand on environmental quality is higher, and become more sensitive to stench. Compared with traditional physical and chemical methods in removing odor pollution, biological method attracted widespread attention at home and abroad because of some advantages such as simple equipment, less investment and low running cost. Dominant bacterium and their metabolism characteristics, operating parameters of biotrickling filters and concentration of degradation products were investigated to provide technical basis on the application of biotrickling filter in industry. The main results are showed as follows:1)A gram-negative strain of bacterium was isolated from the sludge in aeration tank of a sewage treatment plant which could degradate H2 S. According to the analysis of physiological and biochemical measurements and its 16 S rDNA gene sequence, the strain Y1 was identified as Cellulosimicrobium cellulans.2)The effects of pH, temperature and shaking speed on the strain growth were studied. Results showed the appropriate conditons were pH 6.5, 32℃ and 150r/min, with a optimized desulphurization ability of 98.29%. The effect sort of three factors on desulphurizing bacteria growth were pH value, temperature and shaking speed.3)With Fe2O3 and SiC as biological trickling filter packing, hanging membrane was 8 days. The results showed that the biofilm formation speed and purifying efficiency of SiC were higher than that of Fe2O3 as loading material of biotrickling filter.4)Organic nutrient solution was finally chosen as spray water for the biotrickling filter through experiments. The biotrickling filters filled with Fe2O3 and SiC were used to carry out the hydrogen sulfide removal experiments, and the optimum operation parameters of the reactor were determined. Result showed that hydrogen sulfide removal efficiency was more than 92% in the inlet gas concentration of 50-700mg/m3, the retention time of more than 23.55 s, spray water pH of 6, the ratio of gas/liquid of 60-40 and temperature of 25-35℃.5)The changes of SO42- concentration in the spray water were studied. With the running time and H2 S inlet concentration increases, retention time reduces, the increase of SO42- concentration decreases. When ratio of gas/liquid was 30, the concentration of SO42-was highest with a removal efficiency of 95%.
