A Study On The Impact Of Export Trade On Environmental Quality In Shaanxi Province

Foreign trade has been active in the world economy since ancient time due to its positive development momentum. This makes it become the one pursued by all of the countries in the world to develop and expand. China has a long history of foreign trade. Chinese economy and trade scale inevitably expand with the deepening developments of economy globalization, trade liberalization and the reform and open policy. Especially after joining the WTO, foreign trade has played an increasingly important role on the development of Chinese economy. With rapid development of the international trade cooperation and rapid expansion of the trade scale, however, the emission of the global industrial "three wastes" always remains a high level. In addition, the environmental quality declines sharply and the international climate problem emerges in an endless stream. Therefore, it is time for China and the whole world to discuss how to come up with a win-win solution to balance the development of foreign trade and the environment for human survival. Shaanxi province, as the "bridgehead" of the great western development and the Silk Road Construction, has realized that the harmonious development between trade and environment plays a significant role on the development of Shanxi economy.This thesis studied the relationship between export trade and environment quality of Shaanxi province, in which the effect of export trade on environment quality was intensively discussed. This thesis reviewed the related theories of trade and environment at the beginning. After running through the literature from intranational and international two aspects, it then described and analyzed the export trade status and environment pollution and corresponding treatment status of Shaanxi province. Based on this, the latest data of Shaanxi Province during 1990-2013 was used, the expanded general equilibrium model was introduced, and the ADF test and cointegration test method was used to test the index data. By analyzing the result of regression, the following conclusions were obtained about the effect of export trade on environmental quality of Shaanxi Province. The expansion of economy scale of Shaanxi province resulted in the negative scale effect, which offset the positive technology effect from the technology progress. The structure effect was negative. Export dependency increased the burden of environment quality. Foreign investment dependency and the policy tendency were conducive to the improvement of environmental quality. In the end, policy suggestions were provided from two angles of enterprise and government according to our discussion and conclusion.
