In this paper, the blue pigments and yellow pigments were chosen aselectrophpretic particles. The electrophpretic particles modified by encapsulatingpolymer in the surface were applied to cromatic electrophoretic displays (CEPDs)which performed good electrophoretic properties.Crude copper phthalocyanine was suspended into the sodium oleate solution bymilling method to improve the dispersibility of particles. The effect of concentrationof the oleate solution on milling dispersion was investigated. The composite particlesmodified by oleate solution were rectangle and the distribution of compositeparticles was narrow with sizes being about100nm. The copper phthalocyaninecomposite particles were modified by encapsulating polymethyl methacrylate (PS)through a mini-emulsion polymerization procedure to improve the solvent resistanceand morphology of the composite particles. The effect of concentration of emulsifier, pigment particles and monomer on electrophoretic particle size and polydispersityindex was investigated. The morphology of obtained composite particles whichmodified by PMMA was spherical and smooth, and the distribution of compositeparticles was narrow with sizes being about100nm. The composite particles wereapplied to CEPDs as electrophoretic particles and the electrophoretic fluids recipewas optimized. The contrast ratio of blue-white dual-color CEPDs was3.80.PY110particles were modified by encapsulating PS through a mini-emulsionpolymerization procedure. The effect of concentration of cosurfactant, surfactant andpigment particles on the reaction of microemulsion polymerization was investigated. The morphology of composite particles which modified by PS was spherical andsmooth, and the distribution of composite particles was narrow with sizes beingabout550nm. The optimized electrophoresis display liquid formula was received bythe research on the effect of charge control additive and hyperdispersant onelectrophoretic display liquid. The composite particles were applied to CEPDs asyellow electrophoretic particles and the contrast ratio of yellow-white dual-colorCEPDs was1.43. |
