Polyolefins are kinds of polymer materials, which are light, cheap, with lowmoisture absorption being widely used in industry fields. The products of polyolefinsis a important level of petroleum chemical industry of the country. But the materialsoften contain two elements, carbon and hydrogen, which makes it a nonpolar and lowsurface energy materials. Its bad chromaticity, adhesivity, hydrophilicity make thematerials applications restricted. In this paper, we synthesis the copolymers ofpropylene and4-phenyl-1-butene. We then use the product to synthesis kinds ofmodified PP with–OH on the pendent part. Its physical and chemical properties isinvestigated. The details as follows:4-phenyl-1-butene is synthesized with the substitution reactions of benzylmagnesium bromide and allyl bromide. A pyridylamidohafnium catalyst with a bulkygroup is synthesized. It is used to catalyst the copolymerization of propylene and4-phenyl-1-butene and the product has the properties of high yield, high molecularweight and narrow molecular weight distribution. The reactivity ratio is investigated. The rp=6.8and the rm=0.05demonstrates that the products are random copolymers. The polymers’ melting points and its crystallization rates decline with theincorporation of4-phenyl-1-butene increasing. All the products show α crystal type. The reactive intermediates react with chlorosulfonic acid and four kinds of aminoalcohols to synthesis the modified polypropylene with–OH on the side chains. Them-PPs’ melting points decline and ability for crystallization decrease for–OH groupis introduced. The results of water contact angle show that the surfaces of the polymerbecome hydrophilic. And the hydrophilic ability is better with the–OH groupsnumber increasing. The tensile strength and SEM show that the m-PPs has thecapabilities of compatibilization to the system of i-PP/Nylon6.
