Resolution is the important performance parameters of a low-light image intensifier.The current resolution testing is done by eyes’observation, it has some shortcomings such as the testing results vary from people to people, the target’s contrast can not be adjusted. Thus, the research on the objective evaluate method of the low-light image intensifier’s resolution test has been carried out.First of all, the paper introduces the low-light image intensifier’s working principle and developing process, it gives an overview of current domestic and international research status of the image intensifier resolution testing techniques; Secondly, the paper develops a resolution testing hardware platform based on digital target after mastered the principle of the resolution testing. It can achieves a continuous adjusting contrast of the resolution target. The hardware platform includes mechanical structure device, OLED drive circuit and image acquisition module; Thirdly, the paper focus on the resolution of image intensifier’s resolution evaluate algorithm, with the human visual system’s characteristics as theoretical basis, the structure similarity criterion as core algorithm, establishing a resolution evaluate algorithm model. The paper proposes two improved algorithms based on structural similarity index and makes some simulation experiments, the simulation results show that:the two algorithms’ computing results are almost consistent with human’s subjective evaluating results. Finally, the paper designed the software and accomplished the testing experiments, it obtained the low-light image intensifies’ resolutions under different contrast. The experiments demonstrate that the resolution of the image tested by the system in this paper has good consistency with that of visual observation result by human eyes.
