The birefringent crystal polarizing prism is a kind of high extinction performance polarizers, Ice chau Crystal system as a prism of the most selective advantage through comprehensive performance comparison at presenta. Produce Iceland SPAR crystals of the polarizing prism is still extremely dependent on natural material, which leads to a batch the status of the device performance is not stable. Natural Iceland SPAR is an expensive single crystal material. Due to the natural growth, there are various types of defects of the material inevitably. These shortcomings eventually affect the performance of the device, and even lead to not be able to use. In recent years a large number of polarization interference imaging experiment explains the situation. How to screening materials in the process of devices processing detection problem early, and there will be a problem of crystal to screening and treatment in different conditions for its development and utilization is a very meaningful work. Which not only reduces the manufacturing cost but also can meet the needs of different technologies. Shows through the literature study of polarization device contact material defects are not reported. Through the defects affect the thinking of refractive index change of relevant production and processing method of optical phenomenon research,we try to give advice on using a Iceland SPAR selection, to the related design personnel to provide a valuable reference.This article selected the crystals with furuncle tumor defects and impurities mixed with two kinds of crystal materials. Glen Taylor prism is made respectively, and the design principle of the two sets of similar experiment system device. Using the same method, from two different angles to analyze the collected data by MATLAB. For swelling lump crystal by using CCD beam spot topography measurement experimental system, using laser as the light source to scan the sample and collect the transmission light spot image. Image processing analysis for the influence degree of different furuncle tumor on like be get by the MATLAB. For impurities mixed with crystal, we use CCD measurement of the intensity of a beam experiment system, under the system use He- Ne632.8 nm laser as the light source to detect Iceland SPAR with green line scattering materials produced by Taylor prism transmission beam of light, after many experiments, the laser crystal and the intensity distribution of the original laser data, calculation and analysis with MATLAB for light intensity of gaussian distribution curve. The experimental results show that the natural Iceland SPAR crystal defect exists probability is very high, but many furuncle tumor is what we observed with the naked eye. But under the experiment of our design can be clearly shows that this method is very simple and convenient. We grade of grey value of furuncle tumor size after MATLAB processing. Furuncle tumor grey value in 0.40 the following on order of magnitude of dozens of micrometers object would not be affected. Grey value is 0.50-dozens of micron order of magnitude of objects become affected. But a few hundred microns affected very small objects in order of magnitude;Furuncle tumor grey value reaches 0.85 or so, a few hundred microns order of magnitude of the object variable became affected. So if dot furuncle tumor is small enough, furuncle tumor depth reach(crystal surface through technical processing after almost cannot find furuncle tumor) to the naked eye, it’s influence on like is acceptable.Another experiment results show that the main influence of impurities inside the crystal is the change of light intensity. Due to the scattering effect of the impurity in the crystal, led to a single mode gaussian beam through the glen Taylor prism, beam spot location changed a little deviation. Through theoretical analysis and experimental verification, we found that the laser by Taylor prism with green line scattering center intensity attenuation, how much will happen will happen and the position of the light intensity in the centre of tiny deviation.Within the crystal device has the defect happened such scattering influence on beam quality.After comparison, we think there’s a furuncle tumor defects of crystal crystal than impurities mixed with a much bigger impact on the beam, but if so furuncle tumor is small enough, furuncle tumor depth reach(crystal surface through technical processing after almost to the naked eye cannot find furuncle tumors), so it influence on like is acceptable.This is not only in terms of crystal defects using value for us to provide the basis for, and rational utilization of materials.
