Terahertz wave has a lot of excellent properties and potential applications inbiomedical, safty testing, communications and imaging. But currently lack ofterahertz modulation,the applications are restricted. The transmission of terahertzwave is abnormal enhanced when terahertz wave through a subwavelength metalhole arrays. Therefore electrically tunable terahertz transmission in subwavelengthhole arrays has a great research significant. The main works are classified asfollow:1. The principle of generating and detecting terahertz wave based onphotoconductive antenna is introduced. Building a terahertz time-domainspectrometry (THz-TDS) system based on the principle.2. The prinple of generating and detecting terahertz wave based on opticalrectification is introduced. The influence on terahertz generation by relativeorientation of (110) ZnTe’s crystallographic axis to the pump beampolarization is discussed based on theory and experiment. Using the methodof refractive index ellipsoid analytic method the electro-optic effect ofZnTe crystal as the terahertz detector.3. An enhanced terahertz transmission in subwavelength hole arrays isintroduced. By connecting this two-dimensional element with an externalvoltage enhanced resonant transmission is obtained. The transmissionincreases with the increases of voltage and it is tunable in a range. Thistunable feature is attributed to the nonlinear electric response of the periodichole array film, which confirmed by its voltage-current behavior.
