Living in a world created by modern technology, we enjoy freedom in many aspects and suffer from the risks accompanied by our adopting modern technology as well. However, people can actively participate in the activities of the technology with their own initiatives and accumulated culture. Feenberg’s critical theory and technical code theory provides a full demonstration of this idea.No matter what attitudes we do have towards technology, it is not possible that we can change it or stop the development of technology. Feenberg believes that instrumentalism and substantialism both regard technology as something established and cannot be changed so that people can only accept or abandon it. Based on this, Finberg adopts a dynamic stance to understand the technology and regards the generation and development of technology as an unfinished process. He advocates that we open the black box of technology and analyze the technical design process, and thus achieve the democratization of technology design and production. With the help of Finberg’s theory on technology democratization, people can explore how we reduce the technical risk and control the coming about of technical risk.
