As an important research topic crossing sociology and economics, income inequality has attracted attention of many scholars both in the individual and region levels. However, compared to the study on the individual level, the research on the region level has two problems. One is that the previous research was based on the division of the eastern, central and western regions, however, from the "Eleven Five Plan", central government has change the Three Regions into the eastern, central, western and northeastern, but few scholars concern the impact of policy modification. The other question is that previous research on regional income inequality limiting on economics perspective, researchers tend to care only about one or several factors, and rarely to analyze it in a unified framework including all relevant factors. The study selects the provincial data from1992to2008year, and mergers it to panel data of the regional level. Using regional theil index as the dependent variable, by establishing structure model(economy growth, industrialization level, education level, urbanization), the institution-policy model(local policy, country strategy, marketization level) and whole model, we analyze income inequality among the Four Regions by fixed effected model. Study found that structural factors are the main factor resulting out the income inequality, contributing57.6%. The structural factors itself exist in location features, society-population feature of a region, which is gradually formed in a long history and in is difficult to change. As a result, given China’s social structure complexity, this inequality will exist for a long time. |
