The Small and Medium-sized Enterprise (SME), as an indispensable part of national economy, plays an irreplaceable role in the development of the socialist market economy.However, capital, as the most critical component of production factors, to some extent restricts the development of SMEs.Solving the financing problems of SMEs could provide more effective funding channels, which strengthens the power of SMEs and promotes the diversified and healthy development of national economy.Relationship lending is the research object of this paper.The purpose of this paper is to analyze the role relationship lending plays in solving financing problems of SMEs.On the basis of summarizing and generalizing relevant research results, the following work has been done:Firstly, this paper described the definition and classification range of SMEs, analyzed financing characteristics of SMEs and introduced financing related theoretical basis.Secondly, this paper described the basic principles of relationship lending and made economic explanation to why relationship lending could solve financing problems of SME from three perspectives,"capital supply and demand","cost-benefit" and "game theory" respectively.Thirdly, based on summarizing the relationship lending development mode of U.S., Japan and Germany, this paper analyzed the specific application mode of current relationship lending in China and put forward some suggestions for the choices of mode.Finally, this paper took Bank of Handan as a case to study how to use relationship lending principles to undertake loan business towards SMEs and it was introduced from business strategy, product design, organization structure, business process and other aspects.In addition, this paper reviewed an actual case of relationship lending for SMEs and pointed out achievements and shortcomings of Bank of Handan in the development of relationship lending for SMEs and put forward corresponding improvement suggestions.This paper systematically studied the application of relationship lending at commercial banks and built a credit rating model based on index weight calculation and a pricing model of relationship lending.Besides, this paper undertook specific analysis of SMEs*loan at Bank of Handan, which is the research characteristic of this paper.Due to my limited time and ability, the paper has some shortcomings on innovation of specific operation mode for relationship lending and long term maintenance of relationship between banks and SMEs.This is also the direction of further research.
