Space, without which any economic activity cannot exist, is asupport for economic activities. Regional economic coordinateddevelopment should be based on certain regional space structure. If it ispossible getting the best configuration for production factors across timeand space in some way, it will make popular flow, cash flow, andtechnical flow etc. fully play their roles. In this way, not only can itachieve the development and optimization of regional space structure, butalso can achieve the goal of turning regional economic coordinateddevelopment from unbalance to balance. This article attempted to discussabout how to accomplish regional economic coordinated developmentfrom the perspective of spatial structure optimization of regionaleconomy through integrating the idea of space optimization to the neweconomic geography. To realize the optimization of regional space, it isrequired to take advantage of resource allocation under the effectivemacro-control of our country, through adjusting the spatial distribution ofeconomic factors such as labor, capital, technology, industry etc., whichcan promote the connection of spatial elements (point, line, plane etc.) toreduce regional disparity and urban-rural disparity. Space optimization isnot locality optimization. It targets to global optimization, coordinates thestructure and function of spatial elements, improves the spatialagglomeration state of economic factors, and makes the greatest space efficiency of concentration and diffusion. This article firstly analyzed thecharacteristics of regional space, the evolution of structure and the idea ofoptimization by using interdiscipline like system theory; secondly, itdeeply analyzed the affecting factors of space optimization for promotingregional economic coordinated development, and also took the YangtzeRiver Delta region as an example, verified the correlation between panelmodel and spatial correlation model; lastly, it offered some suggestionsfrom the macro, meso, and micro level based on theoretical and empiricalresearch, in order to guide the development of related policies.
